All the players obviously enjoy the wonderful game of soccer but holding onto the Cork Street Soccer League title means everything to the official Cork Foyer soccer team. The standard of teams in this year’s Cork Street League was higher than any previous year on record. The competitive games did not disappoint, with the league finally being decided with a penalty play off between the Cork Foyer and Liberty Street Services for young people out of home. After the nail biting finale, Cork Foyer lifted the trophy with pride for the 3rd year in succession.
Selected players from Cork were given the opportunity to show their skills along with over 268 other soccer players from all around Ireland in the hope that they become one of the chosen few to represent Ireland in this year’s Street Soccer League World Cup in Brazil in September. With great pride, and once again on the day of the trials, Daniel O’Herlihy (Cork Foyer Goalkeeper) was presented with the Cork Player of the Year Trophy by Goalkeeping legend Packie Bonner.
