Cork’s Lifelong Learning Festival 2010

Foyer Family Fun Day

Cork Foyer participated in this year’s Lifelong Learning Festival in Cork with a family fun day.  Utilising the space and attractions that the venue has to offer the general public were invited to visit the home of Corrigan’s City Farm and experience a rural farmyard in an urban setting.  Beginning with a fantastic performance by the Mayfield Brass Band, people were welcomed to see and pet a wide variety of farm animals from the AgriAware Mobile Farm, view vintage tractors, stroll through the allotments and pick up tips from a horticulturist.

There was also a small farmers’ market set up enabling people to sample a variety of products from homemade pates to candle making.  Along with all this was the opportunity to view the handcrafted furniture on sale made by Churchfield Trust, avail of a paper making chicken workshop run by Graffiti Theatre and face painting and balloon modelling for the children.

Great fun was had by all and excellent feedback was given by those who took part.  It proved to be a very popular event which was greatly supported by the local community.  With the success of the family fun day this year it is anticipated that we will continue to participate in events like this because they prove to be a valuable and worthwhile experience for the community, and help raise the profile of the Foyer and its Garden Project.
